The Prototype
Precision National Corp #122 was part of a large fleet of former Quebec North Shore & Labrador GP7/GP9 locomotives that were leased to the Canadian Pacific Railway between Feb 1972 to June 1975. The history of these units can be found in our blog-section titled “The Saga of the Bellequip Geeps”
The Model
PNC 122 started off as a Proto-2000 / Hobbycraft Canada released GP9 pre-painted in the Quebec North Shore & Labrador Rly delivery scheme. Anthony Fletcher added/altered extra details to match QNS&L standards, and custom printed decals for the road numbers in Helvetica bold/italic font (ie CP Rail style) and the yellow-patched ‘PNC’ in thin Roman lettering. The model was then weathered by Ted Kocyla to tone down the brightness of Hobbycraft’s factory paint. As a ‘rent-a-wreck’ PNC 122 is operated in the middle of a random consist every few operating sessions on our CP Sudbury Division layout.
